Job Specification

Join us to work on the high profile tax and social policy agenda as part of a cutting edge team

We are now recruiting for Assistant Policy Analysts in Inland Revenue's Policy and Strategy Group as part of our graduate recruitment round, commencing in January 2019.

Policy and Strategy (PAS) is responsible for providing policy advice to the Government on tax and social policy issues and leading the development of Inland Revenue's strategy.  On the policy side of PAS we develop, manage and communicate tax and social policy using the generic tax policy process (GTPP).  Our advice is provided jointly with the Treasury, and other agencies when required.

We are busy.  The Tax Working Group and Welfare Expert Advisory Group will soon report back to Government and we anticipate many policy changes could emerge from their advice.  This is an exciting time to be involved.

You will be both applying and continuing your learning while working in a busy “policy shop”.  Being at the forefront of the “machinery of government” you will be exposed to a variety of work that includes, but is not limited to, tax legislation, bill cycles, writing reports and presenting policy recommendations to senior officials and ministers.

We are looking for graduates with strong academic backgrounds and the ability to work well with others.  You may be a deep abstract thinker or you may excel at solving complex problems or you may bring diverse perspectives and have the ability to help others understand those views. The attributes we are looking for include the ability to think conceptually, solve problems collaboratively, engage well with customers and stakeholders, work in teams, and communicate complex ideas effectively.

We love the work we do and we will work to ensure you will too.

When applying please ensure your application includes the following:

  • Your CV
  • Your Cover Letter
  • Your FULL Academic Transcript
  • A sample of your written work

Details about the role can be found in the attached Job Expectation. Should you require further information please contact Marie Davis on 0800 IR Jobs or 04 890 6303.
