As a Principal IT Consultant you will be a part of the team responsible for managing and moving Inland Revenue's infrastructure to an on-demand model that fully utilises outsourced and on-demand solutions, provide support to projects in the development of technical design, and be a key source of expert advice to your own and other senior managers across the organisation. You will provide technical leadership to others in your team and demonstrate strong relationship management and networking skills alongside your excellent technical experience. 

 

You will need the ability to provide high-level technical knowledge, expertise and leadership, with advanced analysis and design ability, incorporating integration across a number of IT systems and platforms. 

 

Your core work will include analysing the performance of Inland Revenue's IT infrastructure environment and making recommendations where appropriate, providing advice on use of technology, software, and information to support business strategy, writing business case's and technical documentation, and providing internal technical training,

 

Your specific technical competencies should include:

 

  • Extensive knowledge and skills in VMware virtualisation including configuration, optimisation and automation, specifically with large scale environments and automation
  • Experience with both Linux and Windows
  • Experience  in disc based backup technologies
  • Be Familiar with middleware deployment and administration
  • Capacity management and sizing
  • Scripting and automation

 

 

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • The ability to manage and perform complex research and analysis activities relating to the relevant technical environment
  • Superior communication skills; able to successfully champion causes and sell solutions
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Be able to mentor others with technical thought leadership
  • Highly proven analytical, decision making and research skills
